Editor30 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 1748 ਦਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ
On October 30, 1748, during the festival of Diwali, Mughal Governor Mir Mannu and Adina Beg laid siege to the Sikh fort of Ram Rauni near Sri Amritsar Sahib, where about two thousand Sikhs were stationed. The fort had been built a year earlier, in 1747, under Bhai Sukha Singh’s leadership to protect Amritsar and Sri Harmandir Sahib. For five long months, the brave Sikhs inside the fort endured severe hardship as supplies ran out. During the siege, Sardar Jassa Singh Ramgarhia, who was serving under Adina Beg, joined the Sikhs, helping them fight from both inside and outside the fort. Ultimately, when Ahmad Shah Abdali threatened another invasion, Mir Mannu made peace with the Sikhs and lifted the siege. In recognition of his courage and loyalty, Jassa Singh Ramgarhia was made the chief of the fort, which was later rebuilt into a grand stronghold and renamed Ramgarh.
